A piezoelectric actuator behaves in the reverse manner of the piezoelectric sensor. It is the one in which the electric effect will cause the material to deform i.e. stretch or bend. That means in a piezoelectric sensor, when force is applied to stretch or bend it, an electric potential is generated and in opposite when on a piezoelectric. Piezo motion devices are often divided into two groups: actuators and motors. Traditional piezo actuators expand analogous to the applied drive voltage. They provide short travel ranges typically under 1mm. Piezoelectric motors require more complex drive electronics and can provide long travel ranges (up to 100's of mm). Piezoelectric sensor is basically a transducer which converts stress applied on it into some electrical energy. It is simply used the principle of energy conversion from one form to another. As in case of piezoelectric sensor, it converts physical stress into electrical energy. Stress can be a force , pressure , acceleration and touching potential.
